Post WGO Folding Team
Note..the idea for this originated a few years ago with one of our best members ever - HarmlessBunnies. In her own words - "I'm a cute little bunnie......With Nasty Pointy Teeth. ;)"

If you leave any of your machines running 24/7 or aren't doing anything with them important, please consider doing some folding for our team and help researchers find cures for Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and and many Cancers and cancer-related syndromes. Our team has kept going since HB started us - let's keep folding and use our pc's for something important!

This is not a game, this is reality: Folding@home
What is Folding@home?

Distributed computing is a way for computer owners with internet access around the world to run a piece of software that enables their machines to be used as a supercomputer. This supercomputer can then be put to good use by a scientific organization with computational needs. The most famous DC project was SETI@Home which was an extension of the SETI program that searched for aliens. This project team is Folding@Home which donates computing power to a Stanford University project studying proteins and protein-related diseases in humans such as Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, ALS, cancer (including breast & prostate), and many others.

All that is required is to download a small program which runs in the system tray. The software has low process priority which means that it should only take up excess CPU power and not slow down your computer. Here is a link to an article that tests if, and how much, of a performance hit the client causes:

Here is a link to the Folding@Home official site:

Instructions for joining the team:
Download software here: http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html

When running the software, you will always want to put in the same username. I recommend using the same one you have on WGO to make it easier to identify each other.

For team number, put in 52346. This is basically how you join the team.

Here's the link to the teampage to see the status of how we're doing:

Team Id - 52346
Grand Score - 871554
Work Unit Count - 3760
Team Ranking (incl. aggregate) - 2947 of 180333
(updated May 2010)

That's a great video but it's a lot of work just to run the program with all those cards - I'll just stick with my simple folding, no need to get complicated!

So I finally got a question:
I'm running a laptop + a comp. Can I run both folding applications while using the same username (Champus) on both or do I need two usernames, one for each folding?

Yes, you can run them both under the same user name, but Machine ID should be different numbers. Also,, I know I just bumped a really old thread but I don't care.
