Well.... I managed to get my new computer started up, BF2 loaded and played a few rounds, and downloaded/installed BC2 and even played a round or two ....got all that done last night after getting home from work.
Bad Company looks good on my new system. Cranked everything up to high settings, set the resolution to 1920x?1280? (not sure if it was 1280 or not) and it played nice and smoothly.
What I can see now is that I'm gonna like it. But I can also see that old man fly

is gonna be on a learning curve again. Most of the keyboard/weapon stuff will come quickly. But the situational awareness and what the mini-map is telling me didn't come to me right away. Guess I should do some reading and learning from you guys (who probably pick it up faster than me). Once I get my bearings about what the info is telling me, and learn the map a little bit....I think it will be fine.
So far all I've done is poke around a little in 2 or 3 rounds. First round or two all I did was die (with no kills) while I was messing with controls and figuring stuff out (like apparently there is no prone option). Eventually, though, I did start to make a few kills and turned things around just a wee bit. I managed to hop in a tank for a few moments and also circled the port in a chopper a time or two. Don't think I hit much with the chopper, but flying it was pretty easy....pretty much like in BF2.
Got a couple soldier names reserved. No surprises on mine, but the one for Flyswamper_jr will be new to you guys:
Mine is: Flyswamper
Jr's is: Snizzicks
I'm thinking I might want to grab another name or two just for good measure, but guess I'll have to do that tonight when I get home.
You are still gonna see me in BF2 a fair bit for the near term until I collect that 3-star rank, but this one will definitely get some time from me.
I'm pretty sure that Fly_jr (aka Snizzicks) will *probably* spend a lot of time in BC2 beta and probably less in BF2....but we'll see I guess.
What sucks, for the moment, is that about 60% of the time when you try to use the server browser I get a crash (I'm using Win7 64-bit). Apparently this is known problem, but it means I have to get into games where the server is auto-picked for me. Makes getting into server with other WGO/CMI guys a bit difficult.
Another thing I'd like to do/change and poked around a little but didn't see how to do is..... I'd like to get rid of the opening "splash screens" that come up with you load the game/software. In BF2 you add a command line switch that is "+restart" and it does this. Haven't figured out if there is a way to do it with this beta and Win7 yet...
